Venous pseudo-aneurysm as a late complication of short-term central venous catheterisation
Complications following central venous catheterisation abound in the medical literature. This reflects the under-estimated potential hazards associated with this procedure as well as an increase in the number of such procedures performed in high-risk patients. We report on a case where a venous pseudo-aneurysm developed four months after the removal of a short-term central venous catheter in a ...
متن کاملUnilateral pleural effusion complicating central venous catheterisation.
Acute respiratory distress developed in two preterm babies because of unilateral hydrothorax secondary to the migration of a central venous catheter into the pulmonary vasculature. Prompt recognition of the problem and rapid treatment are essential and life saving. This complication of intravenous alimentation catheters has not been previously reported in the neonatal age group.

Forty two premature babies (mean birth weight 980 g, mean gestation 27.6 weeks) had central venous lines inserted at a mean age of 10 days through the internal jugular vein because of poor peripheral venous access and for purposes of parenteral feeding and minimal handling. Eight babies died from complications of prematurity and four from septicaemia with a central line in situ, but the other 3...

متن کاملCervical Compartment Syndrome – Complication of Central Venous Catheterization
Iatrogenic carotid artery injury may result from various medical procedures. We describe a nearly devastating complication such as the occurrence of cervical compartment syndrome following the attempt of a transjugular central venous catheterization. A vascular surgical approach was conducted to treat this rare clinical finding that has not been described in the literature until recently.
